Hp pavillion 8652c Memory problem

I inserted a 256mb pc 133 sdram 133mhz into a pavillion 8652c it now no
longer works even when i switch back to the old memory card.
A friend of mine has the computer and I recomended the memory but he
installed it. He said the computer would not work so he reinstalled the
old ram but now when he boots it will only partially boot., The Windows
XP boot screen will show with the progress bar for a while and then it
reboots again over and over.
I hear that the pavillion 8652c can only use 128 mb Dimms that run on
100mhz would this improper memory the 256mb Dimm that runs on 133mhz
hurt the computer.

The HP Pavilion 8652c has a max of 256 MB (2 X 128 MB DIMM). Supported memory is
16MB, 32MB, 64MB and 128MB unbuffered DIMM SDRAM, 100 MHz. The memory module you
recommended, as you found out will not work.

Have your friend double check that all cables and wires are firmly connected inside
the case. Make sure he disconnects the main power cord and grounds himself by
touching the case to release any static electricity that may be in him. An
electrical discharge on any part inside the case could render the machine completely
useless. The best way to stay grounded is to use a grounding strap.

Aside from checking the cable/wire connections, have him make sure the memory
module is properly seated and secure. After checking all cables, wires and the
memory, reconnect the power and boot up. If it still has boot issues and you can see
the POST during boot, look closely to see the memory count and if it is correct for
the memory installed. If you can't see the POST, boot to the BIOS and check if the
memory is detected and correct for the memory installed.

If the machine still won't boot properly and all appears correct, test the memory
for integrity by running MemTest86 or another memory tester for a couple hours.

Simply power off pc,remove the battery, this alone clears the CMOS when
removed for 1.5 minutes or so.At this time you can/could/should move the
CMOS jumper pin on the board from 1-2 to 2-3 position for same time, then
back to 1-2,replace battery, start pc.On start up,you'll need to reset BIOS
date/time,etc,then set to "load set up defaults" or "optimize defaults"
etc,then
readjust for any add-in hardware. Its really simple, most all intel mfg
boards run
this all the time...
