HP Laserjet III

The school where my wife works has an HP Laserjet III that was donated. The
printer is connected properly to the computer and everything looks okay, but
every time I try to get something to print I get a paper jam error (error
code 13). I open the cover to see if there is anything stuck but there is
nothing. Does anyone know how I can get this printer working? Thanks in
advance.

I hope you really did'nt just post a valid email address.... If you did you
should'nt if you don't want spam...

It's declaring a paper jam because it is not seeing a sheet moving through
the printer when it expects one. What is happening is a sheet is not being
pulled from the tray. Most common cause is worn pickup roller and seperation
pad. If you're mechanially inclined you could replace them. Parts and
drawings are avaliable at printerworks.com. Also take a look at
http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kka0.html, complete kit with instructions.

Before you spend to much money on the printer try to get a page through it.
you can try forceing sheets thru the manual feed or try cleaning the pickup
roller with water or rubbing achol. Aslo try putting only about a 1/4 inch
of paper in the tray. In other words you need to find a trick to get it to
feed some paper so you can find out if everything else works. Theres a lot
more that could be wrong with an HP III that would make it not worth fixing.

You would get a better response if you posted this in the
comp.sys.hp.hardware newsgroup.

He is absolutely right. You get an Non-OEM Pick up roller for a few dollars
with shipping and handling from LaserPros at:

888-558-5277, ext 122.

The thing is that you will pay more in S&H than for the Roller itself. To
replace the roller, you will have take the covers off and remove the a few
things to get to it. A mess so you are definitely better off getting the repair
kit from www.fixyourownprinter.com if you have never done that before. The
instruction itself is worth the price of the kit.

My two cents.
