I need help please. maybe from someone familiar with setting up this printer
directly on the network.

I have this LaserJet 4m plus that I recently bought. I am using Winxp and
the printer works fine from the parallel port. I can even see the printer on
the network. However i am trying to get it attached to my home network via
the internal Jetdirect card (Ethernet, 10BASE2 and AppleT) but nothing is
happening. Tried several different cables and even try to ping the IP
address without success.

Seems t network cannot recognize the 10baseT port. I also noticed that I can
change all the configuration on the printer panel except for the network
setup - it simply refuse to save that option. My early suspicion is a bad
jetdirect card or I do not have a clue what I am doing. I any case, please
help

Make sure you don't have anything connected to the coax connector. Do
you have the IP address on the same subnet as the rest of your network?
Usually this means that the first three portions of the printer address
have to be the same as all the other equipment on your network, like
192.168.0.x. Subnet mask should (usually) be 255.255.255.0.
I also noticed that I can

It's not an option, it's just the menu choice to get into the network
setup. The settings for IP address and subnet will still be saved.

What are the specs for your Hub/or/Switch. 10mb, 100mb or 10/100? If you're
running a 100mb network you need a hub/switch that will support the 10mb
device.

You would get a better response if you posted your question in
comp.sys.hp.hardware .

Hold the Online button while turning the printer on. This will do a
cold reset of both the printer and the JetDirect. This will set the
JetDirect to use DHCP so it can get an in-range IP from your network.

Print the self test page and see if it says the JetDirect is installed.
If nothing shows up about it on there, then there's either something
wrong with the JetDirect card or the MIO slot. With the power cord
unplugged, try removing and reinstalling the JetDirect card if it
doesn't show on the self test page.

With the IP from the self test, you can telnet to it and change all
the JetDirect settings. It's faster than using the printer's display
and buttons.
