HP laserjet 1100 paper jamming!

Hi,

I've got a HP laersjet 1100 and the paper keeps feeding several sheets at
once - sometimes a wad of about 20 sheets! I've got the cover off and there
doesn't appear to be much wrong - it's quite clean and unworn looking. The
paper I'm using is standard phocopier paper that feeds OK on other laserjets
I've seen.

I intended to post this in the printer.laser NG, but it appears to be dead!

Has anyone any ideas or pointers to troubleshooting this problem, please?

It's possible it needs a repair kit that HP offers for free. Be aware
this program ends Oct 31, 2003 so don't delay!!!

Details are here (very long 3-line link, cut & paste back together:)

The order form is here. You want the 'T' tool kit:

We had one at work with the problem, and the repair fixed it. It's very
easy to do.

Thanks, it looks like the right fix for the problem, I've now ordered the
part. It's odd that HP with all the exprerience they've had with, printers
should have this problem!

Thanks again.

I think the issue is a cork or similar pad that dries out and isn't
'sticky' enough to hold the paper. It's one of those things that didn't
show up until they were out for awhile. I'm guessing the beancounters had
a hand in using cheaper materials, too.

Funny how it's been the same problem in the 5L, 6L, 1000, and 1100. What
is that, ten years?

That free kit - DO NOT use it jet order the kit from Parts Now and
fix it for a longer time but it's not free its 20 usd. There been
reports of the free kit trying to feed though the printer damaging the
printer on the way though.

Yon need to replace both sub pads and the seperator pad (3) parts.
about 30 minutes if you have done it and hour if you have not.

What's the damage look like if it has happened?

I'm trying to diagnose an 1100 which is printing badly--a self-test looks
quite ugly, but it is very subtle--poor appearance on serif fonts.

An engine test appears idential to a good printer. Changing the cartridge
makes no difference.

I can't see anything looking at the inside of the printer that would make a
difference.
