hp LaserJet 1012 Works with Vista Ultimate RTM

I just wanted to let people know that, at least on my system, the hp
LaserJet 1012 (1010 series) does work (at least basically) under Vista
Ultimate RTM. I couldn't run the actual HP driver software since it faults
almost immediately under Vista. Instead, I just turned on the printer and
Vista looked for the drivers. It couldn't find any on its own, so I pointed
it to HP's install CD. Vista then went through the motions of trying to get
things installed, but failed at some point (I think it was due to the
spooler). I then went into Device Manager, opened the "IEEE 1284.4
compatible printer" structure and right-clicked on the identically named
device underneath. I told it to Update the Driver Software and it did the
rest on its own. The printer works fine (I haven't done anything esoteric
with it, though).

I will add another supported printer.

The HP Photosmart 2575 printer is supported under Vista both as USB and
as a Network device. I have only heard positive reports about the USB
and that it is fully functional under that mode. The remote scanning
functions are not supported via TWAIN under Vista when you use it as a
Network device. The printer does have a web-based interface so you can
get to the scanning functions from there. When you have Vista search
for a network printer it will not find it initially. You need to tell
it that the printer wasn't on the list and give it either the ip address
or the hostname of the printer. It will probe the printer and install
the correct drivers afterwards.

HP Laserjet 1000 does work, too. But in my case installation was
somewhat tricky - one must install old drivers (in my case 5.51.0926 for
Windows 2000), in W2k compatibility mode, and from built-in
Administrator account. The printer work fine, even the DOS emulation
driver was installed and correctly transfer print jobs from LPT to USB.
