HP JetDirect 175x - can't change IP address!!!

Guest

I have an HP 1200 with a JetDirect 175x that I'm trying to connect to our
network, but it's IP address conflicts with an HP 4300 in a different
department in the same domain . I tried changing the IP address of the
4300, but then the printouts come out on the 1200 in my department. So then
I tried HP's cold resest of the JetDirect 175x, but it still retains the
conflicting IP address. Is my JetDirect toast? Thanks in advance.

You might need to power cycle the JetDirect for the change
to take effect.

The computers that were configured to print to that printer are still
sending jobs to that address.

Details needed. Are the addresses static or dynamic? How are you
changing them?

Lacking details... Use JetAdmin to set a static address on the 175X, an
address that doesn't conflict with anything else on the network. Put
the 4300 back to its old address, so the client computers don't need to
be changed.

For optional but thank-me-later neatness points, assign an unused static
address that the network admin has already set aside for printers and
will not be assigned by DHCP. Record the new number in your network
information file/book so it isn't used again later for something else.

For double-extra neatness points, print the address on a label and stick
it to the 175X.

For triple-extra neatness points and a shot at the bonus round,
statically assign, record, and label all your network printers.

Make sure that the JD is not working in DHCP mode but STATIC (or FIXED)
mode. In that mode, you can assign whatever IP @ you want. After that,
power cycle your printer.
