I had an er accident with my new HP laptop 1030ea DV2 laptop.

Boot up ok with message no operating system found.

Checked Bios no hard drive found. Usual whirring that nots right sound.

HDD up the creek?

Screen, Motherboard,RAM Processor ok as far as BIOS permits
The HDD is a WD Scorpio blue SATA 320Gb.

As I assume its a standard HDD can I replace it with a Scorpio Black 500Gb and install a more reliable OS like XP- ha ha I know!

Possible problems? Gamble time for replacement.

Yes I know warranty but dont want the hassle from HP etc

If it's under warranty they might be ok with sending you a replacement hard drive out if you were going to fit it yourself anyway. :) May be worth checking, as it would save you having to buy a new one.

I'd pull the old HDD out and take a look at it to make sure you can find a similar replacement (in terms of physical size, connections etc...). I don't see why changing the capacity too much would result in problems unless you go for a huge jump which the current BIOS can't handle.
