HP Deskjet printer driver

I recently installed my "old" Deskjet printer on a newly purchased pc with XP Home on board using the parallel printer port. Installing went smoothly and I could print HP test pages without problems. However, when I tried to print some older Word docs with this set-up I noticed to my dismay that the 2nd line of an A4 document was missing or damaged, the remainder of the page was printed OK. Is the printer driver supplied with XP corrupted or has someone done a sloppy job? The HP web site keeps telling that I have to use the XP supplied driver. My printer continues to work well on an ageing pc with Windows 98SE. Who can help ??

Unfort unately HP Printers and Windows XP just don't go together. HP refuses
point blank to provide any drivers for older printers and the basic drivers
supplied with XP are just that! BASIC. No double sided printing etc. Even
their newish printers like my 995 lose functionality with XP (Can't collate
multi copies) and HP are just not interested. After much expense ringing
them up and complaining I've come to agree with a few other regular
posters... buy a HP and youv'e got a lemon!

Interesting to see there arn't many complaints about Canon priinters in
here.

Very few complaints about Canons... most about HPs... but then HP sell more
printers than Canon..... so percentage wise, there's probably not a lot of
difference.

Personally I have only Canons.... and they're all very obedient.... but they
again, they probably know what they're up against if they decided to go and
do something silly.

My PCs rarely give me problems either... all homebuilt (with the exception
of the notebook).... and all clean installs.

Perhaps I just train them right from day one!

I am not sure but I think that Canon licenses the basic printer technology.

Delete the second line prior to printing.

Thanks for your sympathy & advice. Introducing a blank 2nd line with a hard
return seems to be the best "fix" for the time being.
