HP deskjet 940c AND officejet d145 - CONFLICT???

ERROR message when attempting to install 940c software:

"Hewlett-Packard Printer Assistant Browser has encountered a problem and
needs to close."

WITHOUT the 940C software (Toolbox); I canNOT, align printer heads, clean
printer heads OR--- check ink level. :-(

ANY stand alone programs that will accomplish this???

Which operating system?
How are you connecting the printers to the PC? USB/LPT/Other?
