Are you using XP's generic drivers for your printer? If so,
go to HP's website - you say there are no XP drivers there,
but the Windows 2000 ones will work and give your printer
more options.

No luck with HP website. There are no downloadable drivers for either WinXP
or Win2000. HP says the generic drivers provided by both operating systems
are adequate. I even tried dloading the drivers for NT4 but they didnt
install properly. So, it looks like my only choice is to reinstall windows
98 or ME on my Spare hard drive and swap out every time I want to do
something like this. How stupid.

To answer the question..."Do you really need WinXP"....Well, no, it wouldnt
kill me to put this nice operating system back in its 189$ box and shelf it.
Nor would it really bother me to spend another 100 $ on a "new" inkjet that
will likely experience the same shortcomings. The issue is.....why mess with
something when it works. My printer worked fine in 95, 98 and ME. I have had
to upgrade to each operating system to take advantage of one thing or
another so its really not an issue of having to have the latest thing. I
would have expected my printer to act exactly the same in Windows XP as it
did in 98. What was so wrong with them that they had to write generic
drivers that disable some of the features my hardware had. What would it
have taken to certify the older drivers for XP. Why lock down the most basic
of features such as resetting the printer margins. I understand that some of
todays printers could be damaged if you try to print outside the set area
but this is not one of them. It should have been left alone. I'm really
getting tired of spending more money to keep things working.

Discuss this with Hewlett Packard...
