HP DeskJet 5850 - Anyone scrapped one yet?

Hello all...

Does anyone have a DeskJet 5850 that has quit working...say a problem with
the print engine or something like that?

I pulled my DeskJet 5850 apart the other day to examine its internal
JetDirect module. (It's a long story, but the HP Download manager I use with
other JetDirect modules said this printer was upgradeable. Let's just say
that it is not.)

Lo and behold, the "built in" JetDirect (J6077a) on this printer is actually
removable/socketed. I thought about buying one from HP parts and service,
but they don't carry it.

My reply-to address is not valid, so please reply to the group if you can
help me.

I believe this printer is designated as a "Surfer Unit" which means that most
parts are not available, the warranty cover is by printer swap out.
You could try a HP repair centre, they may be able to help.
