HP cd-write cd12 series

I can't get it to work with Nero at all. When I use it with Win On CD
(which it came with) it goes to buffer under-runs - even if you start
burning at 1x. If you force no buffer underruns the timing goes very
wrong after the first track - track 1 will be fine, then at the start
of track 2 it'll just go to -9:37 or something equally wrong.
Is it time to get a new one?

Not enough info.What O/S?
What PCI slots used?
Post full hardware spec.
OS used etc.
