I have a 762N that the harddrive crashed on... I need a copy of the
restore disks. HP doesn't offer them any more, and they said to make
my own copy from the computer itself, which is not possible as the hard
drive is bad. Can someone please help me? Desperately need a copy
of restore disk.... Thanks in advance... Stephen Scohy

Call them back and insist on it. (Nah, I don't own one but keep asking to
talk to "your supervisor" until you get someone who understands that the OEM
is responsible for providing OS recovery media.)

That sure sounds logical and sounds as if they would be bound by law to
provide it. Sure is good to know, as I had ass*umed we'd just be up the
creek. Actually, the original purchaser should have made the backup discs as
soon as he booted up/installed(?) the system. Lots of people fail to do
so--luckily I somehow managed to follow their instructions on the 1st comp.
I saw w/such a setup. I made the restore set, upgraded it slightly, re-sold
it to a customer, and he managed several months later to cause it to need a
total system restore. Sure was nice when he came walking in w/the comp.
under one arm and w/the discs in the other hand!
Should all else fail, and depending on what's wrong w/your hd, you can
try to temporarily install another hd as master (using any XP-install disc,
legit or bootleg: I'm ass*uming your 762N has XP.), hang the original on as
slave, and get to the files you need to make the restore set. Luck to you,

I've never used them but it is one of probably many that may have the disks you may
need:

There selection steps for the Pavilion 762N w/XP Home gets you to:

As I mentioned, I've never used them or anyone else for that matter, do your
research before diving in haphazardly when purchasing software from companies that
are not well known. I have read on a few sites that some 762N disks contained
viruses.
