Since installing Win XP, my HPDeskjet 693c won't print
double-sided. I have installed the correct driver.

Sorry, it looks like you're out of luck unless you use a third-part
printing application such as FinePrint (http://www.fineprint.com/).

Although Microsoft provided XP drivers for a lot of old printers, these
drivers only provide basic functions (and I guess double-sided printing
wasn't considered a basic function). HP apparently decided a while ago
not to further support your printer with updated drivers. See
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwa...dj693c&sw_lang=en&submit.y=9&submit.x=8&cc=us

If you click on the "Windows XP" link on that page, you're eventually
taken to directions for installing the MS XP driver. Note that on the
"step-by-step" instructions provided by HP at
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/docume...R5UOSQ?reg=na&cc=us&docName=bpd09005&lc=en&#1

HP writes: "The drivers for HP Deskjet printers are included in Windows
XP. The following instructions are for installing the basic driver that
is preloaded on Windows XP. There is no need to download a printer
driver from the Web." Note the word "basic" in the second sentence.
The reason for the third sentence is that HP didn't write an XP driver.
