HP 6100/7100/7130: a good buy?

Ken Brooks

My search for a multifunction printer is homing in on the HP
6100/7100/7130 product line. HP seems to have by far the best
long-term track record for producing good quality machines. These
machines are color inkjets, flatbed with sheet feeder. Some can do
2-sided copying and printing. I can't find a review for any of them.

If you have any experience to support or refute my enthusiasm for this
product group before I buy, please let me know!

Thanks,
Ken Brooks

The Officejet 7100 series (not to be confused with the Photosmart 7xxx series)
is an follow-on to the Officejet D series. It is a 4 ink printer, and does not
have capability for the best of photo printing. It is somewhat faster than the
6110, especially in color copying or printing. The print heads in the 71--
series are separate from the ink supply, which can be more economical for
higher usage environments.

The 6110 is like a PSC 2210 with added capability to support an optional
two-sided duplexer and the standard document feeder. The 6110 can support the
optional #58 photo cartridge to provide six-ink photo printing.

What are your printing needs? If you are doing a lot of printing the 7100
series will probably be more economical. If you are interested in photo
printing the 6110 may be a better choice.

Personally I am using the PSC 2510 which is based on similar technology as the
6110. It does not have an automatic sheet feeder, but it does have both
wireless and wired networking as well as photo card slots, the ability to print
edge to edge photos and like the 6110 it is a printer, scanner, copier and fax
that supports an optional two-sided duplexer as well as the optional photo
cartridge.

I just bought the 7130 about a week ago and so far like it. I have scanned
about 100 old pictures and they look great. Print quality looks great.
