hp 520 dir>prn

Hello. I've got an old Hewlett Packard DeskJet 520 that I'm trying to get to
work on a Windows XP computer.
Whenever I try and print anything all I get is a contiunuous stream of
garbled text.

The printer is probably okay as it can print out a stand alone test page.
The cable is okay as it works with other printers and I've had the same
problem using another cable.
The driver should be okay as its the Hp 520 driver that comes with
WindowsXP. This is the driver that Hewlett Packard suggests you use on their
website.

I also get the same results, a never-ending stream of rubbish, when trying
to attach it to another computer running WindowsXP.

I've tried uninstalling the driver completely and re-installing it. I've
tried using the 500 driver but got the same results.

When I type 'dir>prn' at the command prompt instead of printing I get the
message 'access is denied'. Does anyone know why this may be so?
Thanks.
