HP 4+ problem

B

Bill Reed

Hi,

I've got a couple of HP 4 + printers which are setup as
TCP/IP with JetDirect internal cards. They are shared from my main server
though they are not directly connected to the server (Win 2003). When I
print from the server everything is fine but when I print from any other
computer on the network I get an extra form feed
between each printed sheet. In other words a blank piece of paper will be
between each sheet with printing on it.
I can setup the printers as direct TCP/IP printers in the clients or use the
server's share and the result is the same.
Anyine have any ideas? They used to work fine.

Somewhere in the print driver there is a directive to place a title
sheet between print jobs. Usually the title sheet is set to have the
source machine that initiated the job. You have not dictated that
information to the driver nor have you changed the default. This is the
way it is on mainframe servers and mini computers. I would think that
this is the way HP designed it since they really are a Unix shop and
have Unix roots.

Check (via the front panel LCD or print out a config page) that they are
set to 60 lines per page. Also, if memory serves me, there is an option
in the printer? in the jet direct card? to automatically add form forms
; that should be off.

Perhaps updating the firmware on the JD cards may help. I assume you
print from the server via parallel port.
