HP 2100 Laserjet quits responding to Word 2002

After going into Tools>Letters and Mailings>Labels, the printer sends
an error message and won't print. After that nothing will print from
any application (e.g. DOS, Notepad, Wordpad, et.).
Have tried:
1. rebooting.
2. unplugging printer from computer, reboot, plug back in, reboot.
3. Uninstalled printer completely and reinstalled. That worked until I
used Tools>Letters and Mailings>Labels again.

Any ideas? I've XP Pro and MSWord 2002.

This is a recent problem.

Hi Jim,

The printer icon appears in the status bar and then adisappears as if
it has printed. There is nothing in the queue.
