I am trying to replace words in a document with a mixed font (i.e., part
Tahoma, part Times New Roman) with a different font.

Hi Josh

Edit > Replace. Leave the "Find what" and the "Replace with" boxes empty.
Click in the "Find what" box, then click More > Format > Font and choose
Tahoma. Now, click in the Replace With box. Click More > Format > Font and
identify the font you want to replace Tahoma with. Now, click Replace All.

Repeat, using Times New Roman instead of Tahoma.

Hope this helps.

If you mean some manual formatting has been applied that you wish to remove.
Select the text in question and press CTRL+Space to restore the underlying
paragraph style format.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not sure my original post was clear
enough. I'll give another brief explanation followed by a more detailed
explanation:

Brief:

I've tried to replace in the manner you describe, but the problem is I am
working with document written in Greek Unicode and English. The Greek text is
part Tahoma, part Times; the English text is Times. I want the English text
to remain Times, but the Greek mixed text in Gentium. (See below for a reason
why a replace based on langauge will not work.). Thanks for the help

Long:

I am working with a document that was originally written in Tahoma. Part of
the document is written in Greek Unicode. The guidelines for the project I am
working on require the English text of the document to be written in Times
New Roman prior to submission for publication. Since Times New Roman is not a
Unicode font, when I changed the entire document to Times New Roman, the
Unicode characters for Greek letters with accents, breathing marks, etc.
remained in Tahoma, while the rest of the Greek word (i.e., w/o accents,
etc.) changed to Times. Complicating matters, the document was not written
using the Language settings in Word, so when Greek text appears, Word does
not recognize it as "Greek" text (which means I can't easily find/replace
based on language in the document). So, I am left with a lot of of words that
are part Tahoma and part Times. I need all of these Greek words to be in the
same font (in this case, Gentium). So, I am wondering how to change the words
that are part Tahoma, part Times to Gentium.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Josh

OK, this is going to take a bit of time, but not all afternoon.

As I understand it, the Greek text is supposed to be in Gentium, but right
now it's in a mixture of several fonts. So the answer is to create a style
used just for the Greek text.

As always when doing something big, make a backup of your document before
you begin.

Create a new style with the Font set to Gentium. Base it on whatever style
you've used for the rest of your body text (if you're not sure what the
question means, then the answer is "Normal").

As a temporary measure, modify the new style so its colour is something that
sticks out (red, for example, or bright pink). That will make it easy to see
what you've fixed and what's yet to be done.

Apply the style to the first paragraph in Greek. Now, go through your
document. Click anywhere within a Greek paragraph and apply your style. (If
you've just applied the style, you can also use F4, which is the 'repeat my
last command' key, or use the Styles and Formatting task pane.)

If a paragraph retains any of the wrong font, triple-click the paragraph
(or, double-click in the left margin next to the paragraph) and do
ctrl-spacebar. That removes any direct font formatting from the paragraph.
(For the record, ctrl-q removes any direct paragraph formatting.)

When you've finished, modify your style to put its colour back to black.

Here is an example of how the text appears in the document:
Ï€Ïὸς αá½Ï„ὸν. The prepositional phrase functions as the indirect object of
εἶπεν.

Since the first part of the entry is in bold, I was able to change it
easliy. The trick was changing the words mixed in with the English text. When
I changed the English text to Times (I was able to do this because it was not
bolded), I was left with the Times/Tahoma words. In the entry εἶπεν above, ἶ
is in Tahoma and ε-πεν is in Times. So, throughout the document I am
searching for individual words like εἶπεν, rather than chunks of text. When I
created the style, I tried searching for Tahoma font which, which highlighted
a section of the word (e.g., in the word εἶπεν, ἶ), and replacing it with the
style. When I did that, the entire sentence (Ï€Ïὸς...εἶπεν) was changed to the
new style. Is there a way to restrict the style change to the word in which
the character is highlighted? If so, your fix will work brilliantly. Thanks
again.

Hi Josh

I think I've got very confused here. I had assumed that entire paragraphs
were in Greek; not individual words.

From your description of the document, it seems that there is no systematic
way of identifying what text that is currently in Times should stay in
Times, and what should be in Gentium.

If that's the case, then there's no way around it but to format it all
manually.

Hope this helps.

It is a bit of an odd situation. I've found a way that I can at least
highlight the words that are mixed (i.e., replacing Tahoma 12pt with 38pt),
but I still have to change each individual word that is mixed. Is there a way
to limit style changes to the word that the the cursor is in rather than the
entire sentence/paragraph? (i.e., if, in the last sentence, I place the
cursor after "n" in "entire" can I change only the style of that word? or do
I have to select the word to change it alone?)

Again, thank you for the help.
