HOWTO: Set up a VPN??

S

Steve

Hi...

My sister and I have a small business but miles apart. Each night, she
emails her Quicken database to me, which I import into my Quicken database,
so we "agree". Intuit suggested that, by building a VPN, we could have
real-time updating.

Where do I start on making a VPN? We are both on high-speed cable with
Earthlink as our ISP. Our main machines are Windows XP Home but I also have
a small LAN with two other stations; one 98se, one Win2k.

What would be the final result? Would we each open Network Neighborhood and
"see/access" each other's resources... like shared folders and printers??

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Oh yeah... forgot to mention... we both have cable/dsl routers in our
houses, which have built-in Firewalls with NAT... and we do NOT use XP's
software firewall.

There is a fairly long explanation in the book "Microsoft Windows XP Inside
Out" that tells you how to do it. I am not going to sit here and type all
that info. ISBN 0-7356-1382-6 and cover price is $44.99. (Might be cheaper
on Amazon.)
