Howto: link external data to a Powerpoint 2003 presentation pps

I would like to use an external file from Office 2003 (Access, Excel) to link
data to a PowerPoint file.
When the external data has changed the Presentation change accordingly
without opening that powerpoint file.

The situation is as follows;
My department uses 7 LCD monitors showing different Powerpoint files.
The information shown on a LCD monitor can differ three times a day.
The required information is now available in a Excel file, I'm planning to
change that to a Access database.
Currently I have to change too many files to acomplish this, so I'm looking
for a solution.
