How "Ultimate" is this?

S

Scott

Windows Ultimate support ends on April 10, 2012..

While support for Windows Vista Business (a LESS EXPENSIVE version)
ends on April 11, 2017.

Such a deal eh?

It has been decided by Microsoft that the Business edition is the one which
businesses will be using (along with Enterprise), and they're the ones
shelling out the big bucks for multiple licenses.
The Ultimate Edition is more for the home user who wants to have everything.
Besides, after five years, we'll most likely be arguing about Microsoft's
new OS offering.

Yes, I know, after all I posted the link.

Not necessarily.

new OS offering.

Probably so. OTOH, MS caved on XP and later extended support for quite
some time, so who knows.

Not necessarily.
Very few businesses need Media center and Tablet PC functions. Businesses
are concerned with dollar values...Vista Business is the right choice for
98% of the businesses out there.
*YOU* may think Ultimate would be better, but most IT folks and purchasing
agents would soundly disagree.

Support doesn't end then.

Support will end 2 years after the next OS hits the shelves, at which time
it will go into extended support. So the actuall date entirely depends on
when MS bring the successor out...

Media Center? No. Tablet PC? Quite a few, actually.

Hello Andy,

I have a problem with that thought process (because I have a small
business and OPTED for the ULTIMATE because I wanted to have
the BEST of BOTH of those worlds)..

I think that Microsoft will eventually have a large number of businesses
purchasing the ULTIMATE Edition and I for ONE feel that the Ultimate
Edition should have the same support that the LOWER priced version
of Business..

The way I look at it is.. Vista Business is INFERIOR to the Vista
Ultimate Edition and I purchased Ultimate because of that reason.. Now
with that being said, I will probably purchase the BEST version of their
NEXT Operating System as well (when it comes out in 5 or so years),
BUT, to me, it is the PRINCIPLE of this topic.. I firmly believe that
Microsoft should honor/service/support their PREMIER Operating
System (Vista Ultimate) with the same support that they are offering
for the INFERIOR Vista Business vs. Vista Ultimate.. Ultimate gives
business users alot more to work with and should be supported for the
same time period..

Sincerely,
Ken

More like two years, being as Vista is the Windows Me of NT.

Agreed on that point. I can name one where a tablet pc can come in
quite handy... A warehouse. Oh you don't know how much we had asked for
this at our last job. Would of made things go a bit easier.

You really think it will be that quick.?

I remember when Windows ME came out.. I purchased
multiple copies for my store.. Then BAM, out came the
XP which I also immediately purchased (BUT, I got smart
and got all Media Centers), gave alot more functionality for
my type of business (vs. the XP Pro Edition)..

Then I got prepared for Vista, and it got continually delayed
and delayed time and again.. I was at Best Buy & Circuit
City for months pestering them.. Then finally Vista came out
and Best Buy gave me a better price then where I purchased
my computers (Circuit City) so I went with them.. However,
the Geek Squad told me it was going to be AT LEAST 5 or
10 years before they updated the operating system on Vista
because it took so long to bring out on the market.. You really
think it will be only 2 years.??

If they have to release patches for the business version then how much
bother is it to do it for all versions? This is just bullshit from greedy
Microsoft to get people to upgrade sooner and fill their coffers.

That's what Bill Gates said on the Daily Show:

So you're not the only one who gets his news from the Daily Show. :) People
are figuring out that the news from a comedy network is usually better and
more precise than from places like CNN or Fox News.

Cheers.

There's a Spanish lady being held in a New Jersey jail because she took
her child to Spain and got Spain to give her custody. Afterwards, her ex
American husband went to a US court and got custody. She visited the US
and was promptly arrested and jailed. It's front page news here but you
won't see it on Fox or CNN even though official representatives of the
Spanish government just went to testify in court.

I've been watching the Daily Show on line for years. Jon Stewart is great.

I was thinking much the same thing. I would not let a Geek Squad
person anywhere near my PC.
