Hi, how can I install the NETCFSetupv35.msi on my Win CE 5.0? It says there
is nothing associated with the extension...

I need to run a mobile CE 5.0 project .exe generated by VS 2005 on my Win CE
5.0 !

Can you help me ?

You don't. The MSI file is for the PC. It will extract the necessary CAB
files, one per processor type, and put them where ActiveSync can find them.
The next time you attach a device, AS will check to see if the framework is
installed and, if not, copy the right CAB file to the device and install it.

Generally, the CAB files are not distributed separately. It's already hard
enough for people to get the right single MSI file without having to worry
about which processor type it's targeting, ARM, X86, EMULATOR, MIPS, etc.,
as well as what platform, WM5, WM2003, Windows CE, etc. Install the MSI
file and check the registry in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows CE
Services/AppMgr/Apps/[AppName] and see where the CAB files were placed.
There will probably be a list of processor types and several CAB files.
Since you didn't say which OS/platform you're targeting, I can't tell you
which one is right, but Windows Mobile devices are almost all running ARM
processors.

You have to use an installer that is capable of creating this kind of setup.

Look at my blog - I wrote about one in the last weeks.

Paulo, if you want to install CF on a device running Windows CE
(Mobile), locate the Compact Framework folder on your PC. This folder is
created by running by NETCFSetupv35.msi and if have VS2008, then it is
already installed. On my machine it is \Program
Files\Microsoft.NET\SDK\Compact Framework\v3.5. Copy the WindowsCE folder
from there to the device. If your Windows CE device has a storage card, copy
to the storage card. Open File Explorer on your Windows CE device (you can
disconnect from the PC at this point). In WindowsCE folder you copied locate
files with .CAB extension (there should be 7 of them). If you recognize by
the CAB file name that it is for your device type, click on it. Otherwise
try one by one. The right one will install Compact Framework 3.5 onto your
device. The wrong one will tell you so and do no harm. These instructions
are my own experience. Like you, I could not find any documentation
describing how to install Compact Framework in plain English. Hope it helps.
