How to use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to console session of Win 2K server?

Hi,
Pardon me if this has been asked before.

From a Win XP Pro machine, I am trying to use Remote Desktop
Connection to connect to the console session of a Windows 2000 server.
I used "mstsc /console" but it does not work and will start a new
session. However, if I used "mstsc /console" to connect to a Windows
2003 server, it does work. Any reason why it is not working for
Windows 2000 server? Thanks!

regards,
Daniel

This feature does NOT exist in 2000 Server, it was added in 2003. The only way to connect to the console of a 2000 Server is with a 3rd party program

I think you can connect to an existing local admin logon session if you log
in and then go to terminal services manager (I'm very rusty on this & may
have it backwards!)

I use VNC on servers for this purpose.

Use UltraVNC. There's a parameter setting to allow loopbacks, or some such
setting, so that you can run VNC against the same machine. You can connect
to an admin session in the background, and use VNC to hit the console
session. Consider whether this is a security risk in your environment.

Sitting at the console session, you can use RD client to see the background
admin sessions, for the converse.
