I have a "Recovery Disc" that I created for my Compaq with XP
pre-installed. Now I want to replace the original HDD for a larger
one. Can I use the Recovery CD to newly install the OS in the new HDD
instead of copying the old HDD?
Maybe. You need to check with Compaq Tech Support to find out for sure.
Normally there will be a disk that you use to set up the partitions and
preps for the ondisk recovery software, and then copy that software to
the hard drive.
Do NOT assume it works that way unless you know for certain, though.
There may be two disks necessary or things may need to be done in a
certain order before the operating system is installed. Always follow
your manufacturer's instructions. If you no longer have them, get them
from Compaq's site.
Best case you can find someone who has done it before, but still
verify it all at the compaq site.
