How to use Recovery Disk

I have a "Recovery Disc" that I created for my Compaq with XP
pre-installed. Now I want to replace the original HDD for a larger one.
Can I use the Recovery CD to newly install the OS in the new HDD instead
of copying the old HDD?

You should consult HP or Compaq at their web site and/or via email.
Sometimes the HDD will be marked to only allow you to install to a certain
HDD that is what my previous compaq computer did.

Yes and it will then be back to factory spec, and you will need to update
win and reinstall all your apps.
Use the copy/clone software provided by the disk manufacturer, haveing
*read* the instructions.
Or for more control of the clone process use a product like Acronis TI, a
trial version of which can be used

Yes you can put a new drive in and use your recovery disks. I recently
did the same thing as you. Just to be sure I sent an email to HP
asking, and the reply was " the recovery disk will install a new
recovery partion (D:) on the new drive. Then update Windows and install
any third party software. -J

Maybe. You need to check with Compaq Tech Support to find out for sure.
Normally there will be a disk that you use to set up the partitions and
preps for the ondisk recovery software, and then copy that software to
the hard drive.
Do NOT assume it works that way unless you know for certain, though.
There may be two disks necessary or things may need to be done in a
certain order before the operating system is installed. Always follow
your manufacturer's instructions. If you no longer have them, get them
from Compaq's site.
Best case you can find someone who has done it before, but still
verify it all at the compaq site.
