For work purposes, I cannot use IE6. How can I get rid of IE6 and instead
go to IE5.5? I have same situation on my xp machine and on my W2K machine.

Thanks,
Tony

Can you supply more detail?
Obviously. you cannot go back to IE5.5 on XP as the base version is
IE6.
Sorry, no idea on Win2K

OK, on the w2k machine at least... I have IE6 installed. I have a work/web
app that only works with IE5.5 or less. I need to go backwards or get rid
of IE6 and install 5.5, which I do have an install program for. What other
details would be helpful?
Thanks,
Tony

Did you try Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs?

Tony,

Are we talking a different language?
You indicate OK on the Win2K machine, but the XP machine cannot use
anything less than IE6, as I have already indicated.

If you cannot use IE6 for work purposes, then I suggest you ask your
superiors why they insist on obsolete versions?

....Alan

I work for a very large nationwide company and IT is in another city/region.
I wonder too why we have to use the obsolete version. I will be contacting
them with this question but I don't expect any changes in browser. We
*were* able to use IE6 and almost any 3rd party browser for that matter at
one time. Then they did some tighter security changes on the software.
Hence, the current situation...

All help appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

Same language. I just mean "OK, let's talk about the w2k machine since you
say I am stuck with IE6 on the XP machine."

I don't think that will work for IE but I'll give it a shot when I get back
to my other location with that machine.
Thanks,
Tony

Ahhh...
Sorry, I translated into my language incorrectly.
I have never seen a Win2K machine, though I have no doubt they exist,
unlike my local Tasmanian Tiger which I have given up hope for.

In such cases it may not be necessary to do what you are thinking of
but only change the User-Agent string that the browser sends so that
the host application "thinks" that you are using IE5.5

BTW the method of overriding User-Agent has changed and isn't
well documented yet IMO. Here is a reply from Jesper Ohlsson [MSFT]
I usually cite when the subject comes up:

Good luck
