How to turn on Autoformat in Contact for phone #s to (###)###-####

Question has been asked several times, and following is recommendation:
All that is required for masking of phone numbers is to set your default
dialing location correctly for your operating system.

In Windows NT, this was further explained; one is directed to Control Panel,
"phone and modem options".

Sorry to have to belabor it, and i assure you i looked hard to find how to
do it, but still can't. Can you post detailed instructions? Need to know
which tab (Dialing rules, modem, or advanced), and specifically can you say
what button or box within that tab needs to be changed, and to what value
does it need to be changed to?

Thank you very much for a detailed explanatory response.

Windows NT?
I don't see any posts about Windows NT. I don't know anyone still running
it. Good question for a Windows NT group.
