How to turn off the WinXP SP2 Firewall?

H

Hollis D. Paul

I installed the WinXP SP2 to one of my client computers. Now I can
only bring up my computer in save mode. I went to the Windows Firewall
to turn it off, and it says that some features can only be controlled
by Group Policy. So I looked in the Group Policy Manager, found the
new policy object, and see that it is applied to authenticated users.
If I remove that group from the Applies to area, will that turn off the
SP2 Firewall?

No. You need to load the SP2 ADMs into the GP in question (copy them from
the c:\windows\inf folder on an sp2 box to your management workstation) and
then disable the firewall. I think it's under Comp COnfig/Admin
Templates/Network or thereabouts. You'll need the QFE if your admin console
is 2000/2003/XP SP1 at
