how to turn it off

when i am in internet explorer on THE top of the page you have the buttons eg
favorites/ print/ search etc

at the moment its as if i am pressing the search button because everytime i
am on a page the left hand side turns to search without me wanting it to and
now it is really getting on my nerves

HOW DO I TURN IT OFF

PLEASE help
 
At the top of the column there should be an X to close it. You can uncheck
Search from the View, Toolbar menu, too.
