How to trick the installer?

After several attempts to perform a successfull install of Office2003, I now
plan totally to clean the area for a new try. Again and again there is what
cannot be fixed, a configuration error in a *.ecf file which then is not
installed. Several errors showup, usually they can be corrected but I fear
there´s some other problems not yet discovered yet.

I guess there´s one or more files showing the install progress/fails which
then are repeated, but how can I know, how do I dare to clean?

Sure I´ll be happy to run a clear version as I used to before. Anyone care
for assistance?

This group deals with Windows 2000 issues. Your best bet would
be to post your question in an Office 2003 newsgroup.

At least thank you for an answer.............
Maybe you also is that clever to tell me where to find such a group. For
about a month I tried as well MS as several NG´s without any reply. I´m a
user,not a technich expert.

I can think of several reasons why you may not have received
a reply, e.g.
- Nobody knew the answer to your problem.
- Your Subject line was insufficiently descriptive. "Trick the
installer" does not say anything - which installer? what
happens?.
I would probably say ".ecf file problem during Office 2003
installation.
- You posted in the wrong newsgroups.

If this was my problem then I would do this:
- Repost in busy newsgroup, e.g.
* msnews.microsoft.com / microsoft.public.office.setup
(a very busy group!)
* microsoft.public.office (not very busy)
* microsoft.public.office.misc (very busy)
- Buy or borrow a small disk (2 GBytes will do!), install
a clean version of the operating system, then see if
the MS Office error still occurs.
- Lodge a call with your nearest Microsoft office. They
will charge you a small amount if the problem is specific
to your PC, and nothing if it's a Microsoft problem.

So an so any your proposals is what I have done for the last month. Only I
never learned about an Office2003 group.

On the poor help I managed my own way out. Thanks for nothing.

I think Eric Raymond's guide to asking question the smart way is a
really neat document.

Even though you posted your query in the wrong group,
I spent 10 minutes showing you how you might get
expert help. Your remark "Thanks for nothing" suggests
that I should have spent my time doing something
else.

Not sure how you got to this newsgroup, but a search at "www.google.com"
under the groups tab might be the way a "non-technical user" could find
out. Here's hoping your future endeavors are more enlightening.
