How to test newsgroup

I've come to the conclusion that the technical help desk at charter.net is
incompetent. I had problems receiving any newsgoup at all beginning on January
1st... they claimed it was something on my end. He wasn't even aware that
they'd changed their newserver from news.charter.net to nntp.charter.net six
weeks ago. Of course, news.microsoft.com worked perfectly all along. The
charter news server miraculously healed itself about a day later. Of course,
they claimed I was the only one who had problems.

Now I find there are no posts at all in one particular newsgroup.... a normally
very active newsgroup. Is there any type of command that I can use to test it.
Posting a message in alt.test isn't going to do the job... I'm able to send and
receive messages in any other newsgroup that I'm subscribed to.

Ideas?

Just forget about it and go make some sawdust. You'll feel better. ;-)

I don't know what you're using but what I'd do is download a different
newsreader and see what it sees.

Most newsreaders allow you to reset subscribed newsgroups. It's been a
while since I've used OE but try right clicking on the group in question.
Select Properties. On the screen that appears, click the Local Files tab.
Then click the Reset button to remove stored messages and headers. Click
OK. Wouldn't hurt to close OE at this point and relaunch it. Then access
the group that you reset. Headers and messages will be downloaded according
to your settings and any message rules you have in place.

You need to go to Options and try some things:. Try "get next 300 headers"
also make sure the boxes aren't checked that say "Mark all messages as read"
and "Hide read messages" One of these should work.
