How to tell which app is making sounds

Periodically when I am working, my PC starts beeping randomly spaced between
..5 and 5 minutes.

Is there a utility or some other method for determining which application
just beeped the speaker?

Is the beeping coming from a speaker...
(# 1.) attached TO your computer?
OR
(#2 .) residing INSIDE of your computer?

The sound is coming from the laptop's builtin speakers. There are no
external speakers attached to it.

Start | Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices
Sounds tab
In the "Program Events" list, select one, then click the black > button to
initiate the sound.
When you find the sound that is annoying you, go to the "Sounds:" option and
change it to (None).
