How to tell SATA I cable from SATA II

Is there a different spec for SATA I and SATA II cables? I have seen
SATA II cables both with and without the metal connectors and they look
identical. How does one tell the difference between SATA I and SATA II
cables?

When SATA first came out the mb connector was always black and so were
the cables. SATAII ports on the mb are always red and the internal
cables are now always red too. I have an older mb that has both SATA and
SATAII and it is indeed as I said. SATA=black and SATAII=red. Got any
more dumb comments?

personal experience plus one website equals all of existence?

I've used every color of the rainbow SATA and SATA2 cables.

As for your nutty idea that the motherboard sockets can only be certain
colors here are current SATA II examples from several of the better
motherboard companies. Better call the SATA police!

That means the same cables work at 1.5Gb/sec and 3Gb/sec.

Even the next generation 6Gb/sec has the objective of using
the same cables.

I find it too bad, that SATA-IO doesn't put this info in their FAQ

Scroll through this list to see some different color cables. There are
only a few dozens.

That's because they are breaking standardization in the hopes that you
will buy their mb because it uses nifty colors instead of the official
colors of black for SATA and red for SATAII.
