how to switch of text deletion when correcting in word

Press the Insert key once, or double-click the OVR indicator on
the Status Bar at the bottom of your screen.
 
Can only guess based on the scant amount of information, but you have
probably activated OverType Mode by accidently pressing the Insert key.

Look at the Status Bar (bottom of window) and see if the letters OVR appear
in black. If so, either double-click the box they appear in or press the
Insert key to go back into Insert Mode.
