Q. How can I get XP to leave my screen alone?
When doing a backup or restore, I want the monitor to continuously
display the progress. Sometimes that applies to BIG updates from Microsoft.

Example. When Driveimage backs up 6GB of data, it takes over an hour.
The process pretty well consumes the machine, and when the screen saver
pops, that takes more processor time.

The Sleep mode also tries to move animation objects, but they move in
slow motion. Moving the mouse to stop the saver ev-e-e-e-e-entulay
requires me to log in again. I don't like that.

The log-in runs like it is running im molasses and takes a long time.
Finally I get to see the progress dialog.

How to stop all this?

Click once on a blank area of your desktop. Press F1. Wait a moment for the
help system to start. In the top left corner, you'll see a search box. Type
the words "screen saver", then click the search button. Wait a moment, and
then browse the subjects which will appear in the list on the left.

I'd give you the answer, but it's better to teach you how to fish, rather
than just give you a fish. :-)

Set the screensaver to "none", as noted, but also change the power
management settings to 'never' for the system and monitor and drives. Turn
off hibernation (which will reduce the amount of data you're imaging, if you
are including hiberfil.sys)

Set the screen saver to "None".

Sorry, I guess I was not clear.
Problem exists on machines with more than one user.

The problem is that XP performs it's "security" check when you have more
than one user. It disconnects me and goes to the "select user" screen
and sleeps. I need to stop that security activity.

Thanks

Yes, Thanks.
I like to fish; have spent a lot of years learning why they call it
"fishing" and not "catching". :-)

So....did you find the answer (or the fish)? :-)

Right click on desktop\properties\screensaver tab . In the pull down list
of available screensavers check none. This will keep your system from
activating a screensaver. You can reactivate by doing the reverse and
checking one on the list.
