How to stop Word from entering the date when you print?

I've been searching for 45 minutes for an answer to this question, please help.

When I type a letter, I open an old word doc that has my address, date, re:
line, and signature block at the bottom. I type in the date manually,
without using a field. I prefer not to use fields for the dates because I've
had problems with saving the document at a later time, which sometimes resets
the date I wanted to keep as the current date.

My new problem is that when I print the letter, Word inserts a date next to
my hand-typed date such that it reads (and this is a cut and paste from a
document today: "October 17, 200610/17/2006" -- the xx/xx/xxxx is the field
that gets automatically entered.

How do I stop this from happening?

The only solution I've found is to let the letter print, then delelte the
field and print again.

Switch off Autocomplete, Tools | Auto Correct Options and the AutoText tab
and remove the tick in the Show Autocomplete Suggestions box. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you need to set up a template or fix the one you're using. If
you use a field with a Create Date field, it will insert the correct date and
will not change when y ou open it at a later time.
