How to Stop Spam E-Mail Spoofing?...

F

Frank McMahon

Outlooks 2003 does a great job of filtering out spam...very impressive.
However now I am getting spoofed spam, where the spammer uses my e-mail as
their return e-mail..leading to tons of bounce-backs to my account. Outlook
does not see it as spam, because it's just a bounce-back delivery problem.

Any suggestions? I know if I block it, if I even can, Outlook will also
block legitimate bounce-backs to me from incorrect addresses, which I almost
can live with to get rid of the huge slew of spoofed stuff.

Any help would be great...I went through the Microsoft support site but did
not see much about this problem. Thanks.

When this sort of thing occurs, it's usually just as easy to change
your E-Mail address than try to fight off the SPAM. Never use your
correct E-Mail address in a usenet group and never respond to SPAM
messages to "unsubscribe" or otherwise.

This almost certainly results from virus infection of some other machine
that happens to have your address in their address book. And is sending
out messages to randomly chosen addresses, spoofing the from as another
randomly chosen address, which happens to be yours. Or is sending
deliberately misleading 'complaint' messages to a randomly chosen
address. It is very difficult to identify where such a machine
actually is; and about all you can do is change your address,
