how to stop outlook from automatically adding an "x" on extensions

Hello, how can I stop outlook from auto-formatting my new contact entries in
the extension lines. Right now if I enter "4567" and click save it will
change the extension automatically to " x 4567"

I sync my outlook contacts with my smartphone, which doesn't know what to do
with the "x" that outlook puts in.

Thank you for your attention and suggestions.

The masking of phone numbers in Outlook is hard-coded and can't be changed.
I tried several things, like putting the extension in the same field as the
main phone number. That produced a number all run together, like "+1 (XXX)
XXX-XXXXXXXX. Could your phone handle that? How does it handle extensions
in the first place? You'd have to make it wait for answer before dialing
the extension, wouldn't you?

I will try the solution you suggested of putting everything in the one line
and not splitting the extension numbers in the extension field. This will
probably allow me to add the letter "p" to the string that my phone
interprets as a pause before it enters the extension digits.

I noticed my phone's contact manager removed any formatting (brackets or
dashes) to contacts I enter in it...so I might as well just start the
standard of running the numbers as an unformatted string with the "p" before
the extension.

Thanks for your help, I will post if the solution does not work.
