How to stop notification ballons???

B

Brad Palmer

Hi,

Does anyone know how to stop those really annoying notification ballons that
pop-up from the system tray, where the clock is located in XP Pro? I don't
mind the icons appearing and disappearing but when the ballons are
constantly appearing too it gets really annoying, particularly as the
wireless network that I use drops out a bit and each time it disconnects or
reconnects I get a popup notification.

Thanks

Easiest way without having to manually edit the registry:

Go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWSXP/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Download and install TweakUI, one of the Microsoft Powertoys for Windows XP.
Once installed, click the Start button/All Programs/Powertoys for Windows
XP/TweakUI. When TweakUI opens, in the left pane click to highlight Taskbar
and Start Menu, and in the right pane click to REMOVE the checkmark to the
left of: Enable Balloon Tips. Then click the APPLY and OK buttons. Reboot
your system and the annoying Balloon Tips will be gone. TweakUI for Windows
XP has many other useful tweaks to customize your Windows XP for your needs.

You must belong to the the local administrators group to
perform these steps.

1. Start > Run and type gpedit.msc

2. In the Group Policy application go to User
Configuration > Administrative Template > Start Menu and
Taskbar.

3. Enable the "Remove Balloon Tips on Start Menu items"
policy. This will prevent some balloon tips but perhaps
not all.

Or, you can Enable the "Hide the notification area"
policy. This will disable all balloon tips, but will also
hide the entire system tray.

1. Start > Run and type gpedit.msc

And for that you must be running XP Pro - it is not supported in Home
