How to stop desktop icons moving in Vista

I arrange my working icons along the right side of the desktop and in two or
yhree days they get moved all over the desktop. That happened in XP only
after a fatal crash. Is there some way to lock the icons in Vista Home
Premium?

Right click on your desktop and make sure "Auto Arrange" and "Align to
Grid" is checked under "View". You should also make sure you choose the
the way you want the icons sorted under "Sort By". This is if you like
most people sort your icons from left to right. I do not think you can
do this if you want your icons on the right side of the screen. Might
be some hidden registry hack for this, but I have not been able to find
it.

A very nice utility. Thank you for the tip! Added to my permanent
tool-box along with a very few other utilities which actually do
something useful. Most don't :)

Hi Max:
Thanks for the suggestion to use WinTidy. That is exactly what I needed. I
arranged the icons the way i want them and saved the layout. I rearranged
them and opened WinTidy and it restored them to the exact location. It is
too bad that Vista arranges them itself every few days and I cannot stop that
from happening.
