How to stop an unread message alert below Account name?

Using Microsoft Office Student edition. WindowsXP. When the computer is
switched on and the Accounts are displayed, under my account I keep getting
'unread message', even though this is not the case. I have tried cancelling
any desktop alerts to no avail, but there sre no unread messages anyway, so I
should not get an alert. Any ideas?

Use advanced find and select the option to search for unread items. Once
found, mark it as read.
