Besides the items listed in Carey's post, you can often make a dramatic
improvement in performance by simply adding more RAM, provided
you haven't max'ed out on RAM, and provided that your motherboard
and BIOS support more RAM than presently installed.

How much RAM memory? Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task Manager and
select the Performance Tab. What is the Commit Charge? What was the
Peak? What is the processor speed?
