my mail deletes spam mail automaticly, but i noticed it delets mail from my
friends that it shouldn't be deleting and leaves mail that it should can some
one help me shut this off or figure out where my spam folder is.
No spam filter is foolproof, so consider options. If it gets too bad ask
your ISP for another address (You may already have one) and set up
another account that you only use for say banks and businesses and NEVER
for greeting cards etc. Greeting cards are simply a means of collecting
valid email addresses.
Never "Forward" jokes sent to you with huge lists of emails in - if
someone gets a virus and they are on that list it has ALL of your emails.
Never use a real email address in a place like this, newsgroups are
"Harvested" by "robot" software that collects email addresses for
spammers. The best method is to call yourself
(e-mail address removed) because sticking .invalid causes the magical
machine that are the internet "Routers" to drop the message in a black
hole. You could also call yourself (e-mail address removed). That is why
Microsoft created @discussions.microsoft.com addresses, to protect users
of these groups.
Let me see, (e-mail address removed) has 1729 emails in the inbox, and I
cleared it around Midnight - about 100 an hour. I don't care because
getting spammed was part of a little research project and they just drop
on my server and lie there
The best spam filter I ever found was PopFile which together with
outlook express got 99% accuracy, nothing else comes even close in my
humble opinion, but setting that up goes beyond the scope of this post
and you can "Google" it for more details. In the end the only answer is
to be VERY selective who you give your email address to.
By all means forward this to your friends, hope it helps and it won't
hurt anybody. Also point them to
www.snopes.com which has a lot of
useful info about how you can get tricked.
