how to shrink pst

I have hit the 2 GB limit for Outlook (I have XP). I moved 1 GB to another
pst folder, but the main folder is still at 2 GB. When I go to Data File
Management --> Compact file now, it doesn't do anything. It says it is
compacting for about 2 seconds, and then ends. I have compacted previously
when it took several hours. Is there another utility I'm missing that could
decrease the size?

Run the repair tool, scanpst.exe, on it, maybe several times.
PS Problems can occur from 1.6gb
