how to settings stay

i had to reformat.
now when i save something to
a certain drive, when i reboot
and save something else it
keeps defaulting to my documents.
anyway to stop this??

also is there a way to keep desktop
icons to stay where i want them and
not move when i reboot??

OK..

There is a feature called as folder redirection in Windows.
Using group policy we can configure it on the domain level,
but i see that you machine is not part of any network.. as spywares do enjoy
it.. just kidding.. don;t mind..

Here is the solution for you.

open regedit.exe
browse to following location
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

There you will see all the folder used for your profiles like Appdata,
cache, cookies ect.

Find out which folders you want to change default location and change the
path for same.. don;t worry about original paths.
