How to set LPT2 address

A

Alldo

I've just installed additional parallel port on PCI slot
and installed drivers, rebooted, etc. Windows 2000 does
not appear to have assigned it an address an I can't seem
to access it.

My BIOS setup doesn't appear to allow me to assign address
either.

LPT1 is at 0378. Anyone know how to assign an address to
LPT2 and what address it should be?

If it appears in Device Manager, set it to address 0278h.

The board has no jumpers.

I came across the 0278 address on the microsoft page -
trouble is I CAN'T SET AN ADDRESS. The device manager and
the BIOS are not allowing me to assign an address as far
as I can see.

Could it be anything to do with the fact that its on the
PCI bus?

So you're saying if you go the Resources tab in Control Panel,
the "Use automatic settings" button is grayed out?

What driver is installed for your PCI card, the stock Windows
LPT driver or one from your card manufacturer?

No, worse, the resources tab isn't even there!!! Its
there for LPT1, but for LPT2 there are just the other 3
tabs i.e. 'General' (its enabled and says the device is
working properly), 'Port Settings' (LPT2) and 'Driver'.

The driver installed is from the card manufacturer and it
is the one for WIN2000.

278 or 3BC

In that case your only two options are to contact the card
manufacturer for an updated driver (one that allows you to
set resources for the card), or to try using the stock Win2K
LPT driver.

Also see if there's an IRQ option on the Port Settings tab.
Force an IRQ (and/or "legacy detection") and see if the card
becomes functional.
