How to send the form results to an excel sheet using frontpage

Guest

Hi,
I followed all the steps on how to send the form results to an excel sheet
using frontpage but after I click the submit button and gives me the
confirmation, I open the excel sheet and there is no data at all. I don't
know what's the problem, please can any one help me?

I have put the excel file under a folder named "fpdb" as the instruction
from the site <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/308692 >; not
under the "_private" folder, and I'm using frontpage 2003 not 2000, can this
be a problem?

How did you "put" the file in the fpdb folder
- just creating a folder by that name and copying the .xls file there does not create the required permissions

If that is what you did delete the .xls file and folder
(make sure you have a copy of the .xls somewhere on your PC)

While it usually requires an Access DB file to create the required permissions,
you can simulate the Access DB file if you don't have Access
- take any small file of any type and rename it's extension to .mdb
File Import it into your FP Web / Site
- FP will recommend to add it to the fpdb folder (OK)
- and ask for a db connection name (any name will do for now)

Now select the fpdb folder and use File Import to import your .xls file into the fpdb folder
Then use Tools Site Settings Database
- Add (give it a name like MyWKS)
- Select - File or folder in current web
- and browse to the fpdb folder
- change the file type drop down to .xls to see your .xls file

You can also while there remove the DB connecting to the fake .mdb FP created there
- and delete the .mdb from the fpdb folder

IMHO
you should be using Access and not Excel as a data source

Hi, first of all thank you so much for your help
I did every thing excactly as you told me but when I run the form and click
submit, it gives me that error:
"FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web
server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish
this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page."

so what's the problem now?

Are you actually working in a server based web/site, w/ the FP SE installed, (starting w/ http://) ?
- will not work in a disc based web (starting w/ c:\...)
