How to search for documents in Word 2007

In Word 2003, I can Open documents, use Tools to find all documents with a
certain word or phrase in them. I cannot figure out how to do this in Word
2007 Beta. I want to be able to search for certain terms in my huge
collection of documents.

It's generally more efficient to perform such searches in Windows Explorer.

For Word 2007 you need to either use Windows Search or use Windows
Vista which includes an Instant Search capability in the Open dialog
box, which isn't available when using Windows XP.

Hi Socrates,

Some features that Office introduced or enhanced over the years have gone back to their 'home' group for management and
provisioning, i.e. they're no longer 'in the box' for Office with the 2007 version.

Among the features taken out of Office 2007 are
Search
Write/Draw Anywhere (when not on Windows Tablet PC edition)
Dictation
HTML/Script editing

Outlook hooks in to MS Desktop Search 3.0 and several desktop search packages (including those from MS, Google, etc) as well as the
search engines in Windows XP, Windows Live and Windows Vista are being revised and addressed at a rate that is quicker than
updates/changes to Office would probably support as an internal capability. The search capability in Word 2003 was sort of a
setback from earlier versions in that it lacked features such as 'saved search'

Office 2007 core apps native file format is XML (basically plain text) wrapped in a .zip box with differing file extensions under
the MS created OpenXML 'banner' for file formats. One of the ideas is not only can those files be searched outside of Office they
can also be modified without the use of MS Office.

If any of this impacts or lessens your ability to accomplish work when moving to Office 2007 from an earlier version, or for any
feedback on your Office 2007 experience you can send that directly to the MS Office Product team using the feedback tool from link
#3 below.

Your post was very helpful, Bob. I also wish to figure out how to send
e-mail from Word (attachments) with Eudora. In 2003, it was sufficient to
set Eudora as my default mail app.

Thanks--Sherryll

Hi Sherryll,

I haven't used Eudora for awhile, but if it's MAPI compliant along the lines of MS Outlook Express, and defined as your default
email app in Internet Explorer's Tools=>Internet options, you can add the 'envelope' command to the Word 2007 Quick Access Toolbar
from
File (Office button)=>Word Tools=>Customization=>Commands Not in the Ribbon and choose the 'E-mail' command you may be able to send
documents from Word.
