How to save news messages?

G

Glen Coulthard

In Outlook Express, I used to be able to drag and drop news messages that I
wanted to save into folders. However, in Windows Mail, I can't seem to
create folders when viewing newsgroups and, therefore, cannot seem to save
the messages in a separate "searchable" folder. Anybody know why or have
ideas on what to do about this?

Thanks -- Glen

You have to copy them to Local Folders now. So create a folder there and
then select the messages and copy them to that folder.

Thanks for the reply Cal, but that command sequence is my problem. When I am
viewing "newsgroups," the Copy to Folder menu option shows no folders in the
dialog box (except for Search folders) and does not allow the creation of
new folders. I cannot seem to copy a message to a local folder. Weird...

Thanks Steve, but what if you are not given the option to copy them to local
folders? There has to be a way to use a "Send to..." like feature from the
newsgroups. Hmmm..

Hi

I tend to right click, choose copy to folder and the drop it into its final
resting place. You will find that the original stays in the newsgroup and a
copy appears in the intended folder.

it's odd that the edit function does not show the folder list.

Strange, works here.

I have a folder called Newsgroup Messages I created under Local Folders with a
couple of hundred saved newsgroup messages in it.

Can't you use the "save as" feature?
Toolbar > File > Save as

There is always the Google Groups Archive, fully searchable,
as a last resort.

The failure of the Copy to Folder menu to show any destination folders
is a bug unique to WLMd and the current WLM beta. MS has acknowledged
it, and I'm sure it will be fixed in the next WLM beta release.

So did I, until I saw the OP's follow-up statement, so to resolve
the discrepancy I decided to check what 'X-Newsreader' client was
shown in his headers.

Good you cleared it up.

Was puzzled that I did not have a "Search folders" option in my dialog box.

Just right click on the message and you get the menu choice to copy to
folder if it has been downloaded.
