How to save clipboard contents?

X

Xylophone

I have XP Home. I've been intrigued by this problem and have never really
got down to sorting it out. When text appears in my Clipboard, text I
want
to save, I can't save it there, nor can I press any buttons in the Program
to copy it somewhere else. Some time ago, I did manage to do this using
advice on the web to copy clipboard contents to Microsoft Clip Organizer
and
save them there. But I can't now replicate that. What is the method for
saving clipboard contents? Solutions/advice gratefully received

Are you saying that when you run "ClipBook Viewer"
Windows\System32\clipbrd.exe that you do not have a File\Save As menu
option?

The best way to save clipboard data is to paste the text into an application
that can accept it, such as Notepad or a word processor, and then save it as
a document. This you no doubt know. What I am wondering is why you want to
save the clipboard itself. Are you wanting to preserve it across Windows
sessions?

Kind regards,
Opus

Since you mentioned Microsoft Clip Organizer, I assume that you're using MS
Word.

I am guessing that this is your problem.

Word clears the Windows Clipboard.

If Word came installed as part of Works Suite then the Microsoft Works
Suite Add-in for Word (COM Add-in) is known to clear the contents of the
Windows Clipboard when Word starts.

Start Word first, then copy and paste.

Or follow the procedures here to remove the Works Suite add-in.

WD The Windows Clipboard Content is Modified When Word Starts
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555173

This applies to Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002 and Word 2003.

You will be way ahead to remove the Works Suite add-in, then you do not have
to remember to start Word first before copying.

Thanks again, guys. I'm back. If I am repeating anything you have said
forgive me. My problem is that when the clipboard shows text, and I want
to
save that text to another program, usually Word 93, I can't do that. It
will save a .clp file of the text, but why I have no idea, as it
absolutely
useless except for seeing what was in the Clipboard in the first place.
So
I want to save from the Clipboard to Word 93. In that connection,
somewhere
else, I can't remember where and should have kept a note, it advised
readers
that you can paste clipboard text into the Organizer and copy/paste from
there to Word. I managed that once, following those instructions, but as
I
say stupidly (for me) I forgot to keep a note of how I did that. My
experiments with the Organizer more recently have got me nowhere. To be a
little more detailed as to the problem, I note that I can't copy the text
from the clipboard, as in rt click/copy, yet, somehow, I am expected to be
able to paste the text I can't copy in the first place into the organizer.
That is the particular bit of the operation I would like advice on. I
hope
I have been sufficiently specific here. Why oh why on earth didn't MS
make
this possible!!!!. Look forward to hearing from you.

I have now worked out that if I press ctrl+v, the clipboard text will
paste
into Word, etc. I had been bamboozled by the fact I could not rt click
copy
in the Clipboard, meaning I could not therefore paste. All I have to do,
apparently, is have the Clipboard open with the text in it and quite
independently of that, press ctrl+v, and hey presto.

No, you don't need to have the Clipboard Viewer (note that it's the
Clipboard *Viewer*, not the clipboard itself)open at all. In fact, normally,
most people never need to use the Clipboard Viewer.

The clipboard exists in memory. When you copy something to the clipboard
(either by Edit | Copy, Ctrl-C, or PrtScrn) it's there in the clipboard. You
can't see it, but it's there.

If you want to paste it (in Word or elsewhere) just put your cursor where
you want it and either press Ctrl-V or choose Edit | Paste. No need to open
the Clipboard Viewer first (or at all).
